Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined by Stephenie Meyer - Review

It has been 10 years since “Twilight” was first released. To celebrate the 10th anniversary Stephenie Meyer has gifted us with a new special edition of “Twilight” and “Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined”. The last one being a gender swap of the characters that we know and love. The book synopsis is the same as Twilight with the only difference that instead of Bella there is Beau and instead of Edward there is Edythe.

The book in general was an interesting concept. I was looking for a reason to read “Twilight” again and this was the perfect excuse. At the beginning it was hard to get use to the gender swap thing. Not only did Bella and Edward suffer from this but also the rest of the characters except for Reneé and Charlie. It was fascinating to see a story that I love so much but form a different perspective. There were some parts where I felt like the swap didn’t work well but there were others where Stephenie Meyer added little details that made the concept complete. Beau and Edythe’s personality fit them well. It was as if the book became less emo and a little bit brighter. I liked that even though there were the same characters they needed to have some different traits in their personalities.
The book is supposed to work the same way only with different genders. However, there were parts that worked more in favor of the characters. For example when Edward watches Bella sleep it seems a little bit psycho and stalker but when Edythe does it for Beau it seem like the psycho level is minimized. I laughed a lot with this book, I founded that Beau’s character was hilarious. The book made me realized how much I have been missing “Twilight” and brought memories from the book back.
**SPOILERS** This part would contain spoilers and if you don’t want to know what changes Stephenie Meyer made to the end skip this part. If you stayed you know or not care, so at the end Beau is changed into a vampire. It was nice to see this because it was like getting and alternative ending to “Twilight”. This finale made me appreciate more the rest of the series. It was as if she put a summary of the other three books at the end. You realize that the rest of the series is necessary to prepare Bella for everything that it is to come. I love Beau’s reaction to it all. It is more or less the same as Bella’s but it is in such a short time that it gets a stronger impact. I liked how Stepehenie made a joke out of what would happen if he hadn’t been changed, which would have been what happened on the Twilight that we know. **END OF SPOILERS**
People started hating this book without giving it a chance. In my opinion there is some pressure coming from the society to hate this book or anything Twilight related. I love Twilight and always will, if you also love it don’t let the pressure of the people change your mind. If you are curious about this book, pick it up cuz’ there must be something that you would like. Even if it just is one cheesy quote. If you love this world and are looking for an excuse to come back to it, stop looking because this is the perfect one. Lastly I want to include one of my favorite quotes in here “…just because we’ve been dealt a certain hand it doesn’t mean that we can’t choose to rise above-to conquer boundaries of a destiny that none of us wanted.”

Have you read it? What are your thoughts on it? If you haven’t read it, are you planning on it? Let me know in the comments.
